Pallas comes from the deadliest vampire clan that ever existed.
Spent centuries transforming wolf shifters into warriors.
People trembled at his name.
Now, he runs a boot camp for misfit werewolves.
Everything is coming together. His life, the pack, and their community.
Then the police found a corpse on his land.
Drained of blood.
His only hope of proving his innocence is the sheriff.
The woman of his dreams with a warrior’s heart.
But she hates him.
For now.

“Pallas” is book 5 in Annie Nicholas’ “Vanguard Elite” series and it’s the icing on the cake for this wonderful paranormal romance series.
In previous books the focus where on the werewolves who are trying to learn fighting skills from the vampire Pallas, the trainer in the boot camp.
We saw him as a ruthless and tough leader, who always put the pack through exhausting and dangerous tests, to select the best among the candidates, who are a bunch of misfits from different packs.
Reading through the other books Pallas’s charisma was always obvious, and despite his poor treatment for wolves in his hands, you could see he cared deeply for them.
The first feeling I had reading Pallas and Leona’s story was a deep longing for the first series I read written by this author: her “Angler” series, which introduced me for the first time her vampires from the Nosferatu clan. I really think I’m going to read them again, for the umpteenth time and if you’re a paranormal romance lover you should do it too.
But let’s talk about this novel.
In the “Vanguard” series the relationships between humans and supernatural creatures were always on the edge, and this book seems to have finally give everyone in the city the opportunity they were waiting for: Pallas’ false step, to get rid of him and his pack of werewolves. Everyone was waiting for this possibility, everyone but the sheriff Leona Lee, who instead has always tried to maintain a balance between the population under her care, trying to enforce the law, including Pallas, keeping an eye on him.
For her, however, it’s a difficult situation to deal with, after the discovery of a human body totally drained of blood, right on Pallas’ property, who from the beginning becomes the suspect number one for the murder.
Between Pallas and Leona things were always awkward, conflicting, while they tried to hide the strong attraction they felt for each other. A sort of “dance”, with the vampire always ready to tease, and provoke the Sheriff, but not going further and Leona ready to fight back without fear.
Because of Pallas’ dangerous situation this game, between them, has to stop, inevitably bringing to the surface their feelings.
The strenghts of the book are them as a couple. Yes, I have a soft spot for Pallas, but Leona is a fabulous character who with her temperament manages to stand out even more Pallas. I was conquered by the situation I faced reading the two of them, their back and forth, always brilliant, and their jokes full of biting wit and also discovering their passionate nature.
Pallas has just found the perfect mate for him, a strong-willed warrior woman and fortunately he is one of those vampires used to show the intensity of his feelings and fight for her.
In this novel we discover the true story of the past of this vampire, his deepest secrets, and we find out the explanation about his bond so deep with his werewolf pack and the reason that led him to want to make them strong and independent , and ready to handle the most extreme situations.
I really think I could not ask for more from the author for this book. I loved every single page and when I re-read a few lines from the exchange between Leona and Pallas I can’t help myself to return to smile, because they are so good together.
