Ho amato la storia di Valerie e Flynn fin dalle prime righe, ho pianto disperata quando la tragedia li ha travolti, ho trepidato quando la carriera di Flynn stava andando a fondo e Valerie è riuscita in quello che sembrava impossibile, ho gioito dei loro successi, ho compreso le loro insicurezze, ho temuto per le loro vite e con questo romanzo K.L. Shandwick è riuscita a far vivere a noi lettori il puro e vero amore.

Questo è un libro pieno di romanticismo, in cui tutti i sentimenti che hanno travolto i protagonisti nei volumi precedenti, ritornano a galla e trovano finalmente il loro giusto posto.

Il dolore, la pura, la sfiducia, l’insicurezza e l’amore, il vero amore, riempiono le pagine in ogni momento.

Questa storia che li ha travolti fin da ragazzi arriva finalmente a concretizzarsi, Val e Flynn non sono più solo due giovani che si fanno strada nella vita amandosi e sostenendosi a vicenda, con la nascita di Liam ora sono una famiglia. Eppure manca qualcosa per essere perfetti.

Manca la fiducia nell’altro e in se stessi. Manca la possibilità di fare finalmente pace con il proprio passato, di sopravvivere a un dolore che potrebbe ancora spezzarli, manca un “SÌ”.

Un libro questo in cui la forza che Flynn ha sempre avuto, dovrà ancora un volta venire in aiuto di Val che dovrà fare i conti con se stessa e saper scegliere se restare ancorata alle sue paure o essere davvero quella donna forte e determinata che appare nel lavoro, ma che non sa essere nel privato.

Anche in questo romanzo ai nostri ragazzi non verrà risparmiato niente, anche qui tutto sembra destinato a finire nel nulla, anche qui dolore e amore giocheranno ruoli chiave.

Ho adorato Flynn, le parole che dice a Valerie sono quelle che ogni donna vorrebbe sentire, ma non solo le sue parole sono importanti, a queste fa seguire i gesti. Flynn è innamorato profondamente, appare incapace di vivere senza quella donna che gli ha rubato il cuore e la vita, ci sono momenti in cui Valerie non mi è sembrata altrettanto forte, chiusa nei suoi dubbi, stretta dalle sue paure.

L’ho detto, si soffre ma la gioia che ad un certo punto arriva sarà travolgente.

Non c’è solo sentimento però, la passione che li travolge ci offre pagine piene di sensualità davvero hot.

Ho trovato questa lettura un vero balsamo per il cuore, parole così piene di sentimento da far stare bene il lettore tanto quanto i personaggi.

Alla fine di questo viaggio due giovani schiacciati dalle difficoltà sono stati capaci di diventare un uomo e una donna completi, sono stati capaci di convivere con i loro fantasmi lasciandosi il passato alle spalle per cercare un vero futuro.

Il cerchio si chiude in modo splendido.

Lo stile è sempre coinvolgente i dialoghi ricchi e mai banali, i personaggi – seppur cresciuti – non abbandonano il loro essere, i ragazzi che erano nella prima parte sono sempre lì, vivi, finalmente pronti.

Una serie davvero consigliatissima, da non perdere.

La fama degli Underdogs sta crescendo, ma c’è un fan che segue Sid da quando si è unito al gruppo, e lo sta facendo impazzire. È solo un ragazzino hipster ricco e viziato, alla ricerca di un bad boy con cui svagarsi. Se conoscesse davvero i gusti di Sid, scapperebbe a gambe levate.

Asher è convinto che Sid sia quello giusto, il suo Unico Grande Amore, il suo traguardo. Anni prima, Asher ha perso la sua verginità con Sid e, da quel momento, ha capito che erano destinati a stare insieme. Tra di loro esisteva una scintilla, un legame troppo sincero perché fosse tutta una menzogna. I membri del gruppo di Sid lo definiscono uno stalker, ma lui desidera solamente offrire a Sid il suo amore. Quando alla fine Sid confessa ciò che vuole, Asher è più che pronto ad accontentarlo.

Tuttavia, l’ultima volta che Sid ha avuto una relazione con un altro uomo, e ha liberato la sua natura di sottomesso, ne è rimasto scottato, finendo per essere cacciato dal suo gruppo precedente, trovandosi sbattute in faccia le porte per diverse opportunità.

Asher vuole che il mondo sappia della sua storia con Sid, ma il problema è che Sid preferirebbe mantenere una relazione basata sul piacere che solo il dolore può regalargli.

Questo libro mi ha suscitato emozioni contrastanti: ho apprezzato la scrittura delle autrici e la costruzione di alcuni personaggi, ma contemporaneamente altri aspetti mi hanno lasciato perplessa, a chiedermi se funzionassero all’interno della storia.

La differenza con il primo volume della serie è netta, perché là, pur nella sovrabbondanza di scene erotiche, la passione tra Dusk e Lolly si avvertiva chiaramente, invece qui più di una volta ho percepito una scollatura tra l’atto descritto e la parte emotiva. O meglio, l’ho percepita da parte di Asher. L’hipster segretamente ricchissimo, che arriva quasi a stalkerare il primo ragazzo con cui abbia fatto sesso pur di avvicinarsi a lui e avere la possibilità di una relazione, è tenero e dolce persino quando si impone, dimostrando molta forza di carattere. Poi è come se scattasse un interruttore e abbiamo un Dom spietato e brutale, che usa l’aggressione fisica e verbale per umiliare e spaventare il suo sottomesso, portandolo oltre qualsiasi limite. È quello di cui Sid ha bisogno, ma Asher non sapeva nulla dell’universo BDSM finché l’altro non gli ha confessato i propri bisogni, non aveva mai neppure pensato di nutrire il desiderio di sottomettere qualcuno; allora è sparito per una settimana per andare a “imparare” ed è tornato pronto all’azione. Questa sua decisione improvvisa, il cambio totale di approccio per soddisfare le necessità dell’oggetto del suo desiderio, mi è sembrata troppo repentina e veloce, mentre invece avrei trovato più credibile e accettabile un suo informarsi insieme a Sid, un periodo di apprendimento che avrebbe permesso ad Asher di diventare il ragazzo giusto per l’altro. Così com’è gestita la questione, mi ha lasciato con più perplessità che convinzioni.

Dei due, Sid è quello che ho percepito come meglio costruito, con l’aria da duro tatuato e l’animo che anela umiliazione e dolore. Per quanto, a voler essere sincera, nel momento in cui si apprende da quale tipo di situazione Sid sia scappato quand’era un ragazzino, mi sono chiesta per quale motivo qualcuno che avesse subito certe cose desiderasse continuare a soffrire fino a punti tanto estremi (e di pratiche estreme ce ne sono, nel libro). Avrei preferito che le sue motivazioni fossero sviscerate in maniera più approfondita, per poterlo comprendere meglio.

Circondati dagli Underdogs, con Dusk e Lolly sempre innamoratissimi e Mage e Dawn ancora un po’ in disparte ma chiaramente destinati a salire al centro del palcoscenico, Sid e Asher si avvicinano e si allontanano di nuovo, faticano a comunicare a parole ma scoprono di avere un’intesa sessuale incredibile, lottano contro le insicurezze causate dai traumi subiti in passato per non perdere la possibilità di essere felici.

Il tutto è narrato con lo stile diretto e scorrevole caratteristico delle Merikan, che riescono a passare con facilità dalla dolcezza delle confessioni più sofferte alla brutalità di pratiche sadomaso estreme. In definitiva, il romanzo non mi è dispiaciuto, ma nemmeno mi ha convinto fino in fondo.

Miller holds open the hobby shop door for me. “After you, my warrior princess. I believe we have a castle to create.”

“Chloe left me a list of items to pick up, since she’s seeing her therapist.”

“Never miss a shrink visit, I say.” Miller stops in front of a remote-controlled helicopter display. “How are they going for her, anyway?”

I’m perched forward in the chair whispering the answer to my teammate—Caesars, Caesars, Caesars—so we can write it on the answer slip before the hostess even finishes.

“So easy,” I say to Roxy as she smacks my palm and mouths ringer while filling in the answer.

I’m not a ringer.

I was simply fed a steady diet of Trivial Pursuit, trivia books, and endless facts about the world as a kid.

That’s all.

Also, I love trivia. Trivia helped me through some tough times as an adult, and by tough, I mean anxiety-ridden, sleepless, and stressful. That kind of tough.

As the hostess flips her cards to the next question, the guy on stage—the one I’m not at all checking out—adjusts the amp for his guitar. The Grouchy Owl has a little bit of everything—from darts, to pub quizzes, to pool, to live music from local bands. It’s like a Vegas hotel right here in the West Village. Big Ike doesn’t want patrons to leave, so she makes sure the entertainment options are plentiful.

And if that handsome hottie stays on the stage, I won’t want to head home for a long, long time. Except that I’ll have to. I’m Cinderella, and I turn into a pumpkin in minutes.

But for now…Hello, nice view.

As the guy turns the knob on the amp, his brown hair flops over his eyes. He flicks it off his forehead with a quick snap then runs his fingers down the strings on his guitar. Those fingers fly.
