Dominic Corisi ha atteso per anni che il vecchio bastardo morisse. Ora che finalmente, Dominic ne è sicuro, suo padre brucia all’inferno, non prova niente.

A 17 anni aveva voltato le spalle al vecchio e alla sua eredità ed era fuggito a Boston. Di lavoro in lavoro, mentre cercava sua madre, aveva creato un impero finanziario. Tutto da solo e al diavolo il denaro di suo padre.

E ora è di nuovo lì, ad aspettare che Antonio Corisi detti legge dalla tomba per voce dei suoi avvocati, quando avrebbe solo voglia di tornare nella sua vecchia browstone, l’unico posto a cui sente un po’ di appartenere, e finire un’intera bottiglia di Jack.

Ma la vita, a volte, ci porta dove mai penseremmo di andare, ed è proprio lì, nella sua vecchia casa che Dom farà l’incontro più improbabile: quello che gli cambierà la vita.

Abigail Dartley è una ragazza come tante, ha la responsabilità della sua piccola famiglia ed è sempre pronta ad andare in aiuto di chi ne ha bisogno.

L’incontro con Dom la trascinerà in faccende di cui non sa nulla e alla fine, a guidarla sarà solo e sempre la sua onestà. Anche a costo di perdere l’uomo di cui si è innamorata…

Ho letto questo romanzo in un pomeriggio, scorre e si arriva alla fine con un piccolo sospiro di sollievo. Dom è un uomo combattuto, il successo non lo appaga, e l’incontro con Abby è, dopo le primissime incomprensioni, una ventata d’aria fresca e pulita.

Abby fatica a credere che quello che le sta accadendo sia davvero reale, ma non si lascia abbagliare e non perde se stessa, né quello in cui crede.

Questo primo romanzo accenna anche ad altri personaggi, che sicuramente ritroveremo nei volumi successivi. Un appunto: qualche pagina in più non mi sarebbe dispiaciuta, così da avere spazio per un maggiore approfondimento dei protagonisti, ma la storia è gradevole e invita a proseguire.

Un buon modo per un pomeriggio di relax.
