I Riscoff avranno anche il controllo della città, ma io sono stanca di sottostare alle loro regole. Se solo riuscissi a resistere a Lincoln Riscoff e a non cadere ancora una volta nel suo incantesimo…

Sono tornata qui a Gable in cerca di pace, ma i problemi sembrano inseguirmi. Quell’uomo mi ha rubato il cuore dieci anni fa, e non me l’ha più restituito.

Insieme potremmo far ragionare le nostre famiglie, immaginare il nostro futuro. Anche se tenere a bada uno come Lincoln è come seguire di soppiatto un puma nella boscaglia, tirargli la coda e poi scappare sperando che non ti morda. Una cosa stupida, una follia. Ma così inebriante.

La trilogia Mount è composta da tre volumi che si lasciano leggere in davvero poco tempo. Sono brevi e scorrevoli e, per chi non si aspetta nulla all’inizio della lettura, sono sorprendenti per la storia che raccontano.

Chi ha intenzione di leggere questa trilogia deve sapere che non può affatto comprare solo il primo volume, ma tutti e tre insieme, perché a parte la scrittura scorrevole, gli eventi narrati vi terranno un po’ con il fiato sospeso e arriverete alla fine dei libri esigendo di sapere cosa accadrà successivamente.

Dato che i volumi sono brevi, magari la storia poteva essere divisa anche in soli due libri, ma il problema  poi sarebbero stati i tanti eventi che si succedono l’uno dietro l’altro, quindi, alla fine, i tre volumi si equilibrano e sono giustificati.

La storia parla di Keira Kilgore, proprietaria di una distilleria situata a New Orleans che produce whiskey irlandese. La sua vita è stata capovolta da un uomo che credeva il suo tipo ideale e che, invece, dopo il matrimonio le ha portato solo guai, facendole quasi perdere fiducia in se stessa, fino a quando non decide di porre fine a questo matrimonio disastroso. Poco dopo, però, Keira si ritrova vedova, ma non ha lacrime per il suo defunto marito. In realtà si sente libera, finché non viene a conoscenza di un grosso debito da saldare con Lachlan Mount, il re di New Orleans e criminale per eccellenza. Mount ha l’intera città sotto il suo controllo. Non accade nulla che lui non sappia e, soprattutto, ogni debito nei suoi confronti deve essere ripagato. Ma la cifra che Keira gli deve a causa del defunto marito, che odia ogni secondo di più, è davvero troppo elevata. Così non le resta che accettare ciò che Mount chiede in cambio finché non si annoierà: lei.

Vi sembrerà una storia già sentita, un tema trito e ritrito che vede in primo piano solo il sesso che poi si trasforma in qualcosa di più, ma lasciatemi dire che vi sbagliate.

Il primo libro potrebbe dare questa impressione, tanto che all’inizio ho osato paragonarlo alla trilogia “Cinquanta sfumature di grigio”, ma senza nessuna intenzione di denigrare una delle due trilogie. Ho amato la serie di Christian Grey, ma con Mount andiamo oltre.

Non abbiamo solo l’erotismo, il sesso, il piacere. Abbiamo qualcosa di più: una donna caparbia che fa di tutto per la sua distilleria, e che piega il suo corpo solo per dovere, ma senza nessuna intenzione di far piegare la sua mente e il suo cuore; e abbiamo un uomo dall’espressione severa che sa solo impartire ordini, ma che ogni tanto si tradisce e mostra un sorriso e si dimostra preoccupato. È difficile capire perché Mount voglia proprio Keira, perché con lei non indossa la maschera da uomo oscuro e dannato che potrebbe uccidere se gli si manca di rispetto. È difficile, sì, ma maledettamente eccitante, perché lei sa tenergli testa.

“Dopo alcuni interminabili minuti, tiro su un’ultima volta con il naso e mi raddrizzo recitando mentalmente il nuovo mantra della giornata, che mi martella nella testa con la stessa intensità che continuo a sentire tra le cosce: Lachlan Mount non mi spezzerà. Può scoparmi, può anche fottermi la testa. Ma non mi spezzerà.”

Leggeremo di due protagonisti che lottano tra di loro con parole affilate, occhiatacce e orgasmi.

Entrambi forti e caparbi, infrangeranno le loro stesse regole per l’altro e scopriranno dei lati di loro stessi che non sapevano nemmeno di avere.

E oltre tutto questo, oltre il sesso che non è affatto predominante come si potrebbe pensare, sarà la stessa storia personale di Mount a catturarvi. La scoprirete solo pian piano, solo quando davvero dovrete saperne di più, e vi farà arrabbiare e commuovere. Allo stesso tempo, vi farà perdere ancor di più la testa per quest’uomo così complicato che, in fondo, ha i suoi motivi per essere quello che è. Perché oltre il male c’è sempre di più.

“Sono Lachlan Mount. Mi sono trascinato fuori dalle fogne di questa città ostile, ho cambiato identità, ho imparato tutto quello che serve per sopravvivere, anzi, per prosperare. Sono diventato l’erbaccia che cresce tra le crepe, lungo i marciapiedi, e che si rifiuta di morire. Ho scalato con le unghie e con i denti i gradini di questa organizzazione e ne ho occupato il trono con la forza. Per il mondo là fuori sono un re che governa con la paura, un re pronto a mettere in atto tutte le sue minacce.”

Quindi addio uomini ricchi con passato tormentato, e benvenuti criminali colmi di potere e passato tormentato.

L’unica nota dolente è il terzo libro, perché ritengo che si siano ripetute troppo spesso delle frasi e dei concetti, rischiando di annoiare il lettore. O, ancora, magari certe scene potevano essere approfondite di più, per farci immergere ancor di più nella storia e nei sentimenti dei protagonisti.

A parte ciò, la lettura di questa trilogia è stata davvero magnifica. Mi ha fatto sorridere e sognare per tre intensi giorni, riportandomi indietro nel tempo, quando leggevo senza pensare a nulla ed esistevano solo i protagonisti che mi avevano rubato il cuore.

Quindi se desiderate una lettura che vi faccia sognare, vi ecciti, ma che sappia anche raccontarvi qualcosa di più di un amplesso, immergetevi in questa storia e perdete anche voi la testa per Lachlan Mount e Keira Kilgore, il re e la regina di New Orleans.

Non ve ne pentirete 😉
