Questo secondo romanzo è ancor più coinvolgente del primo e, nella gioia e nel dolore, il destino dei nostri si compie.

I protagonisti e i comprimari sono personaggi particolari, legati a un mondo fatto di muscoli e sudore.

Le presenze femminili sono ben delineate nelle loro peculiarità, e non è un caso che Francesca sia, in assoluto, la più femmina tra tutte, quella destinata al campione.

Una lettura gradevolissima, un protagonista che non ha paura di dichiarare forte e chiaro il suo amore.

C’è chi afferma che non possa  esserci amicizia, di quelle sincere e disinteressate, tra un uomo e una donna. C’è chi afferma che la presunta amicizia sia solo la punta di un iceberg fatto di desiderio, tenerezza, possesso e tutto quel che c’è in mezzo: innamoramento e amore. Ma Deacon Love lo sa. Sa cos’è che lo lega indissolubilmente a Francesca, Frankie per lui. Amore assoluto, unico, totale. E sa anche che se non farà la sua mossa, e presto, la perderà per sempre. Lui, il ragazzone, una celebrità, lottatore professionista e stella delle Mixed Martial Arts. Lei, piccola, testarda ballerina, la sua Principessa. Sono cresciuti insieme, legati da un’amicizia familiare e dall’aver entrambi perso le loro madri troppo presto; il lottatore e la ballerina, unica figura femminile in un mondo di uomini, palestre e muscoli duri, contando su un legame fortissimo e intenso, essendoci sempre, a ogni costo, l’uno per l’altra.

Quando Deacon capisce che il tempo sta per scadere, fa la sua mossa, ma spaventa Frankie che sfugge al confronto e al riconoscere i suoi stessi sentimenti. Solo un evento traumatico, terribile, li riavvicina, ma Francesca continua a negare una parte di se stessa, quella parte che appartiene a Deacon da sempre e per sempre, per paura di perdere tutto:

La mente mi sta urlando di correre, e anche lontano e veloce, perché alla fine lui mi brucerà. E’ quello che fa, sebbene non sia ciò che si prefigge di fare. Il mio cuore però, il mio povero cuore si gonfia, piange e canta tutto in una volta.

Tutto questo crea equivoci, confusione e dolore in entrambi, e le intromissioni di personaggi appartenuti a un passato non molto lontano non aiutano a fare chiarezza, ma i sentimenti sono tenaci, catene infrangibili e, nonostante tutto, nonostante le distanze, i timori, il dolore, la paura, loro sono giusti. Giusti l’uno per l’altra. Un incastro perfetto, nell’imperfezione delle cose. Perché Frankie non si piega all’ineluttabilità di questo sentimento? Perché sfugge, facendosi del male e facendone a Deacon  “The Hitman” Love più di quanto si possa sopportare? Purtroppo il pericolo è dietro l’angolo e, come una mano gelida, si allunga su Francesca. Cosa accadrà? Chi ci sarà a salvarla? Perdere Frankie potrebbe spezzare Deacon per sempre. Sono qui, palpitante, in attesa di leggere l’epilogo di questa bellissima, rovente, appassionata storia d’amore. Lo consiglio? Assolutamente sì, anche se, ogni tanto avrei voluto scuotere Frankie…
