L’accordo è bizzarro, ma Aidan, dopotutto, ha un certo fascino e Emma è tentata di accettare. Riuscirà a mantenere gli incontri con Aidan su un piano puramente fisico? E frequentare Emma servirà a smussare il carattere di un insopportabile dongiovanni?

Emma, quasi trent’anni e nessun uomo.  Emma desidera avere una famiglia, un figlio e vuole farselo da sola.

Quando il suo migliore amico, donatore in pectore,  si tira indietro perché il fidanzato non gradisce, a lei si spezza il cuore. Però, per uno strano caso, il suo collega Aidan, sciupafemmine che di più non si può, l’uomo che lei aveva sgarbatamente rifiutato ad una festa aziendale, si offre come padre biologico, e lì cominciano i guai…

Questa la storia in poche righe, anche se, ho scoperto leggendo, c’è un secondo volume che racconterà come finisce.

Ora vi racconto i due personaggi, entrambi trentenni in carriera: ma davvero? In qualche momento pensavo stessi leggendo uno YA, visti i pensieri e le azioni dei nostri! Lei decide di mettere al mondo un bambino per sentirsi meno sola, ma non vuole rivolgersi a una banca del seme perché teme che il padre biologico possa essere (!) un serial killer… Lui, il signor tiscopo-tiscordo, all’improvviso è talmente affascinato da offrirsi purchè la fecondazione avvenga… in modo classico. Ma niente, lei rifiuta, poi ci ripensa, poi ci ripensa ancora, poi accetta e poi… Potrei continuare all’infinito, e neanche riuscire a raccontare tutto.

In tutto questo, le pagine scorrono piuttosto faticosamente, illuminate ogni tanto da qualche frase arguta:

– Emma alzò gli occhi al cielo. “Perché all’improvviso mi sento come Scarlett O’Hara in Via col Vento quando si lamenta del fatto che le donne devono comportarsi da sciocche per trovare marito?”

“Beh, tecnicamente tutto questo non è per trovare marito. Hai solo bisogno di un’erezione o due”.-

Vi assicuro, la Katie Ashley della Vicious Cycle Series è assolutamente irriconoscibile, in questo romanzo, ed è un vero dispiacere…

Leggerò comunque il seguito, sperando che i due, in qualche modo, comincino a comportarsi da adulti.

For Jenny O’Malley, the plan was supposed to be easy. Become the surrogate for her friends, Connor and Jeff, deliver their healthy baby, and earn some money towards her student loans. But as the saying goes, the best-laid plans often go awry. Especially when you’re looking at the prospect of not getting laid for a long, long time.

With T-Minus two weeks to insemination, Jenny decides to take her friend, Casey’s, suggestion to have one wild fling before she’s saddled with heartburn and stretchmarks. When a tall, dark and handsome man swaggers into the bar where she works in skin-tight jeans, cowboy boots, and a Stetson, Jenny knows he is the one. After a scorching night of banging boots until dawn, Jenny is a little sad to see her Cowboy in Shining Armor leave.

When he reenters her life a few weeks later, she never could have imagined a positive sign could be such a negative.

As she was cleaning up in the wake of a rowdy group of frat boys from Georgia Tech, Jenny caught sight of a cowboy hat out of the corner of her eye. Immediately, she drew in a sharp breath and swept a hand to her chest to try to still the erratic beating of her heart. Turning around, she peered in the direction of the white Stetson.

Sweet Jesus, he was back—the hot-as-hell cowboy from out of town. It had been two or three weeks since he’d first strutted into the bar an hour before closing time. In his tight jeans, he’d left little to the imagination about what kind of weaponry he was packing.

At first, she’d thought he was lost. After all, he had looked so completely out of place—a ride ’em cowboy right out of the Wild West, smack in the urban jungle of Atlanta. Ignoring the stares from some of the other patrons—and from Jenny—he had slid across one of the bar stools. Sweeping his hat from his head, he’d then held up his hand, signaling her to come over.

“A shot of Jack,” he’d requested. Holy hell, his voice. It had sent a shot of white-hot lust straight to her core. There was something particular about a man’s voice that got her libido up and running, and the deeper the better. It was why she had a hard time watching Harry Potter without having impure thoughts about Alan Rickman, AKA Snape.

While she fixed the drink, Jenny could feel the cowboy’s eyes on her. The heat of his gaze bore through her white blouse and warmed the skin above her breasts. It wasn’t like she wasn’t used to male customers staring at her boobs. She had learned from her older sister, Laura, to use her C cups to her advantage with tight shirts and low-buttoned blouses. Most of the time, the leers of horny men grated on her nerves, but not that night. She’d wanted the cowboy’s eyes on her. If she’d been honest, she wanted his hands and his tongue on her too.

When she’d placed the drink in front of him, she smiled. “There you go. My name is Jenny if you need anything else.”

“Can I ask you a question?”

“I guess,” Jenny had replied hesitantly.

“How in the hell do you live down here with all the crazy drivers?”

She hadn’t been able to help laughing because the question wasn’t what she’d been expecting. “I guess since I’ve lived here all my life, I’m used to it.”

The cowboy had grimaced. “You have my sympathies.”

“Hey now, I happen to like this city,” she’d protested.

“You can have it.”

And just like that, they’d struck up a conversation. Since it had been almost closing, they’d had time to get to know each other. His name was Brett, and he was a professional roper passing through Atlanta on his way back home from a roping championship in South Georgia. Jenny really had no idea what professional roping entailed, but her dirty mind had decided to draw the obscene conclusion that he was really good with his hands. He could tie her up—you know, if she ever decided to swing that way.

When he’d found out she loved horses but rarely got to see any in the city, he’d taken her by the hand and led her outside. Although a voice inside her head screamed that he could be about to abduct her, she’d kept letting him lead her across the parking lot. She’d liked the way his calloused hands felt against her skin, and a relieved sigh had escaped her lips when they stopped in front of a horse trailer. Opening the back, he had introduced her to his two horses, Waylon and Willie. She had tried not to swoon at the gesture.

After they’d gotten back inside, Brett had insisted on buying her a drink, even when she told him she could have one on the house. One drink had turned into two, and when she’d gotten a little tipsy, she’d been really thankful her dad was in the back to run the evening’s receipts. Even after she’d turned off the open sign and locked the front door, Brett’s perfectly sculpted ass had remained on the bar stool. She hadn’t felt a connection with anyone in such a long time, and it wasn’t just about the physical.

Damn, she had wanted him to kiss her that night, and for a moment, she’d thought he would. Instead, he’d slipped his cowboy hat back on. “You take care,” he had said.

“You too,” she had replied as she watched him walk out of the bar and out of her life. She had experienced a sinking feeling that something potentially amazing had just slipped through her fingers. She’d never in a million years dreamed he’d walk back through the doors, but there he was in all his beautiful flesh.

Da quando suo padre è stato assassinato in servizio, l’agente Samantha Vargas è determinata a sconfiggere i criminali della droga. Quando il suo partner accetta il caso degli Hells Raiders, Samantha accetta di andare sotto copertura con lui fingendosi la sua donna, ma si ritrova ad essere attratta dall’uomo su cui sta indagando. Benjamin “Vescovo” Malloy ha lavorato duramente per costruirsi una posizione sia dentro che fuori dal mondo dei biker. Di giorno lavora come meccanico, e trascorre le notti a ricostruire motociclette con la speranza di possedere un giorno un’officina tutta sua. Dopo aver preso sotto la sua ala uno dei nuovi membri del club, il Vescovo si scopre sempre più attratto dalla sua ragazza. Anche se ha deciso di abbattere i Raiders, Samantha scopre che il loro mondo non è l’inferno che pensava. E quando la posta in gioco si alza, rischia di perdere molto di più del suo cuore.

È sempre più difficile trovare romanzi originali, e questo capitolo conclusivo della Vicious Cycle ne è la conferma. Cambia fratello e cambia pulzella, i protagonisti qui sono Samantha e Vescovo, ma il libro è un copia-incolla dei due romanzi precedenti. Scusate, cambia anche un’altra cosa: il mestiere della pulzella da salvare. Per il resto è uguale!

Certamente, potete obiettare che essendo una serie basata su un club di motociclisti non è che potevo aspettarmi che la trama fosse molto diversa da quella che è, e certamente non mi aspettavo una brutta copia di Jax Teller, anche perché, diciamocelo francamente, di Kurt Sutter ne esiste solo uno al mondo! Però, diavolo, è esattamente uguale agli altri. Un uomo e una donna si incontrano, sono attratti l’uno dall’altra, l’uomo si innamora perdutamente di questa pulzella dal passato difficile, fanno del gran sesso, poi tale pulzella viene aggredita dal cattivo di turno, e il biker dalla moto scintillante la salva.

E diavolo, per la seconda volta! Ma una ragazza dal passato normale non esiste? Ma un uomo che non sia un dio del sesso esiste? Vescovo viene definito “il dio del sesso orale”, e per la miseria! Sesso, sesso, tanto sesso fino al 80% del libro. Non sono bacchettona, amo gli erotici, ma quando in un libro c’è solo il dio del sesso in persona e la pulzella che non hai provato tali orgasmi, mi infervoro e non poco! Capisco che quando c’è il sentimento si vede tutto in modo diverso, ma non è possibile. Autrici mi rivolgo a voi: mi scrivete, per favore, un libro dove la protagonista ha un ex che non dimenticherà mai per il sesso favoloso e strepitoso che faceva solo con lui? Non sto scherzando! È statisticamente impossibile!

Penso di essermi sfogata abbastanza, procediamo dunque all’analisi del romanzo.

A questo punto della recensione, rileggo la trama per evitare spoiler e cos’altro posso aggiungere se non: sesso, sesso e ancora sesso! Samantha è un infiltrato che si innamora della persona su cui sta indagando. Tra di loro vi è qualche scambio di battute, e poi BOOM, scoppia l’amoooooore! Lei è attratta da questo bellissimo uomo tatuato, ma ha delle remore in quanto il suo passato è stato tragicamente segnato da un motociclista. Avendo di fronte il dio del sesso in persona come può rimanere salda sui suoi principi? Come?

Lui, Vescovo, fratello di quei due Gnocchi con la G maiuscola (G, una lettera a caso), boxa, seduce, siede al tavolo del comando, come può non innamorarsi di questa ragazza così attratta da lui, così desiderosa di fare la sua conoscenza? Come?

Ciò che vi ho raccontato fino a ora, è circa l’80% del libro, guardavo la percentuale di avanzamento di lettura con timore, non succedeva niente di niente, tranne… Bravi, vedo che ora avete capito. A tal proposito,

«Ah, è così, cavernicolo?» «Senza alcun dubbio». Mi strinse le braccia intorno alla vita. «Credo ci siano cose peggiori che essere la donna di un cavernicolo». «Voglio sentirti dire che sei la mia donna». «Ma dai, Vescovo…». «Dillo», le ordinai mentre mettevo in moto il quad. Samantha alzò il mento e guardò il cielo. Non rispose, quindi io aggiunsi: «Starò fermo qui finché non lo dirai. Piuttosto ti farò morire di fame». «Non prendo ordini da nessuno», disse lei, continuando a osservare le nuvole. Senza scendere dalla moto, le cinsi la vita e la costrinsi a sedersi sulle mie gambe. «Vescovo, cosa stai…». La zittii incollando la mia bocca alla sua. Allo stesso tempo, le infilai una mano in mezzo alle cosce. Lei sussultò quando iniziai a toccarla da sopra le mutandine. «Dillo, Samantha». «Mmm», mugugnò lei, assecondando i movimenti della mia mano con i fianchi. «Di’ che sei la mia donna o non ti lascerò venire». «Non sei corretto», ansimò lei. «No, non lo sono mai. E ottengo sempre ciò che voglio». Quando la mia mano le sfiorò la pancia, lei trattenne il respiro, che rilasciò quando le infilai due dita dentro. «Adesso lo dirai?». Guardandomi dritto negli occhi, Sam disse: «Sono la tua donna, maledetto coglione di Neanderthal».

«È bello sapere che non sarò l’unica vagina», dissi scherzosa. Vescovo rise. «Sarai l’unica vagina che mi appartiene». «Sì, cavernicolo». Vescovo spostò la testa per darmi un tenero bacio. «Il soprannome “cavernicolo” inizia a piacermi. Mi eccita». Io sorrisi. «Come mai non mi sorprende?»

Normalmente mi sarei fatta una grassa risata, però a casa mia si dice “il troppo, stroppia”. Ripeto, non sono una bacchettona, ma ¾ di romanzo, che ha come protagonista un agente dell’ATF, non può essere solo sesso. Le indagini sono pressoché inesistenti, gli affari del Club sono presenti, l’autrice avrebbe avuto modo di indagare più a fondo, dare a noi lettori qualcosina in più di un osso da mordicchiare. Non voglio addentrarmi nel discorso “cavernicolo” perché rischierei di sfociare nel femminismo più estremista, ma credetemi sulla parola, non esce una buona immagine della donna in questo romanzo (e non basta, cara Ashley, darle un lavoro da uomo per salvarle e salvarti la reputazione!).

È un romance, lo so, però la trama faceva ben sperare. Mi aspettavo un po’ più d’azione, mi aspettavo che al momento della scoperta del vero lavoro di Samantha cadesse il mondo, e invece delusione più totale. Che amarezza. Se è vero che i romance hanno come obiettivo il lieto fine, è anche vero che devono essere strutturati, devono sviluppare una trama, devono costruire le basi affinché il lieto fine abbia un senso logico, altrimenti “volemose bene tutti” e invece di leggere un libro del genere “annamo tutti a mangiarce ‘na pizza” (l’uso del romanesco è per enfatizzare il sentimento di amicizia che ci lega ai nostri amatissimi scrittori).

Non so davvero che voto dare, quello che so è che la sufficienza non la posso dare; non ci sono però errori di grammatica, quindi non posso neanche dare il gravemente insufficiente e qualcosina (ma proprio ina) da salvare c’è:

«Allora di sicuro vuoi anche dell’altro da lei», disse Diacono. Rev e gli altri si fecero avanti prima ancora che potessi rispondere. Sospirai. «Va bene. Voglio dell’altro. E con “dell’altro”, intendo più di una scopata». Non volava una mosca nella stanza.

…

«Sono d’accordo con loro. Essere un uomo non vuol dire scopare qualsiasi donna ti passi davanti. Un vero uomo ha aperto il suo cuore almeno una volta nella vita così che qualche stronza potesse farlo a pezzi. Alcuni di noi sono più fortunati e la donna con cui si sono aperti si è rivelata quella giusta. Ma ad altri si è spezzato il cuore». Mi fece l’occhiolino e aggiunse: «Ora tocca a te».

Darò un 2.5 solo per le buone intenzioni e perché non essendoci strafalcioni grammaticali ho desistito dal terminare il libro molto prima della fine.
