Ma a riempire di colore le giornate grigie di Elena è Alessandro, un affascinante giovane imprenditore che aveva conosciuto qualche mese prima e che sembra intenzionato a volere molto di più che chattare con lei.

Tutto cambia la sera del 18 marzo, quando alla tv passano le immagini dei mezzi dell’esercito che trasportano le bare via da Bergamo: per la prima volta, Elena e Lorenzo si rendono conto della gravità di quello che sta succedendo fuori dal loro appartamento, e allora anche la lite sulla tavoletta del wc rimasta alzata perde di significato.

“La verità è che non sei distante abbastanza”… Quanti di noi lo abbiamo pensato in quel periodo di convivenza forzata durante il lockdown. Sicuramente per certi versi è stato anche bello vivere i primi giorni in famiglia, riscoprendo il gusto di fare qualcosa insieme che non si riesce a realizzare facilmente nel tran tran quotidiano, che sia guardare un film, cucinare insieme o semplicemente stare a parlare del più e del meno senza il fiato sul collo del tempo che passa veloce. Ecco a me è successo. I primi giorni mi sono goduta la famiglia, ho cucinato per loro piatti elaborati che non avevo mai il tempo di mettere in pratica, abbiamo guardato quelle serie tv che ci ripromettevamo da tempo di seguire; ma poi, “lo stare insieme per forza”, il peso di ciò che accadeva intorno a noi, le sirene spiegate delle ambulanze che passavano sotto casa, la famigerata didattica a distanza, hanno fatto scoppiare quella bolla di benessere dei primi giorni, rendendo la convivenza più difficile, facendoci desiderare nuovamente il proprio spazio personale. Immaginate, allora, se foste state costretti, durante la pandemia, a convivere con il vostro ex che proprio pochi giorni prima ha confessato di avervi tradito? E immaginate anche che il sopra citato ex non sia molto scrupoloso sulle regole igienico sanitarie da rispettare per il COVID, e voi siate invece un’ipocondriaca che disinfetta (secondo me lei le bolliva davvero) anche le mutande, e aggiungete una coppia di vicini di casa che, a tutte le ore del giorno, propina un repertorio musicale degli anni 60/70. Questo è quello che accade a Elena, relegata in casa con Lorenzo, o meglio “Lostronzo”, come lo ha ribattezzato affettuosamente e, alla luce di ciò, penso che a me il lockdown sia andato di lusso. (Al netto dei figli a casa, della simpatica didattica a distanza e la ritrovata convivenza h 24 con il marito, un vero “lusso”)

“…come quando d’estate la colonnina di mercurio segna 35 gradi però tu ne percepisci 45 per colpa dell’umidità. Con il mio ex è lo stesso. Ne ho uno in giro per casa e mi sembra di avercene almeno quattro. Ormai sembra di stare sulla Striscia di Gaza, è un conflitto per tutto. Dalla tavoletta del water che lui non riesce assolutamente ad abbassare al tubetto del dentifricio che non richiude mai, neanche avesse ogni mattina una paresi alle mani.”

Il tono ironico della Parenti è piacevole, ci sono scene che fanno sorridere e altre che fanno ridere, ma il romanzo non è solo questo. Non è solo la storia di Elena costretta a convivere col fedifrago Lorenzo, non è solo una commedia romantica, ma un romanzo che parla di tante cose: amore, perdono, paura per l’ignoto e per il futuro, la riscoperta delle cose semplici e dei momenti vissuti insieme. Fa capire anche quanto noi umani siamo imperfetti a volte, e che c’è bisogno di grandi tragedie per apprezzare quello che abbiamo, che la vita va vissuta anche se si sta perdendo la speranza, anche se intorno a noi si vede solo un baratro. Elena e Lorenzo lo capiscono guardando in televisione la sfilata di carri militari che parte da Bergamo, quella tetra sfilata che è impressa ancora nelle menti di noi tutti e, in quel momento, si rendono conto che essere chiusi fra quattro mura, non è poi una tragedia. La tragedia sono quelle immagini riproposte dai vari TG senza sosta.

“Penso al virus, un essere microscopico in grado di distruggere tutto quello che noi consideravamo normalità insieme a ogni nostra più piccola certezza. Ci credevamo grandi, potenti, invincibili, e lui ci ha resi tutti indifesi, confusi, spaventati, incapaci di prevedere quello che sarà. A pensarci bene, però, esseri piccoli e fragili lo siamo sempre stati. Il virus ci ha soltanto costretti ad ammetterlo.”

Mi ha fatto un certo effetto rivivere determinati momenti, perché questo è stato un evento storico al quale abbiamo fisicamente preso parte, non si tratta di memorie dei nostri nonni, io c’ero, l’ho vissuto e sono qui a raccontarlo.

Questo è un romanzo di guarigione, non da una malattia fisica, ma da una ferita al cuore, un dolore che diventa a tratti fisico e che non è facile superare e far cicatrizzare.

I miei complimenti all’autrice, perché prima o poi ero certa di leggere qualcosa riguardo alla pandemia, non pensavo assolutamente così presto però!
